The Oakwood School is a PK3, PK4, K-12, coed, non-sectarian independent school setting the bar for a 21st Century education teaching the whole child through hands-on, experiential learning.
Admissions
The Oakwood School seeks students who demonstrate characteristics consistent with the mission of the school. The goal of the admissions process is to determine whether Oakwood is a good environment for the student's social, emotional, and intellectual development.
Academics
As educators, we establish a school climate that nurtures student growth so that our students will ultimately become independent, wise, creative, thoughtful, and engaged citizens who can manage their time, work in a team, set goals, and problem solve effectively.
Athletics
At The Oakwood School, the interscholastic athletic program is an important part of the student’s experience. Oakwood is committed to providing competitive opportunities through interscholastic, recreational, and intramural sports programs.
Fine Arts
The Fine Arts programs at Oakwood offer wonderful experiences that serve as a catalyst for students to explore and realize their creative potential. We have created a very intentional arts curriculum knowing that the arts are an essential and critical part of human expression and the human experience.

Get Involved
One of the founding principles of Oakwood was to encourage parent participation and become an integral part of the school. Parent volunteer groups support our students through the generosity of their time and resources helping strengthen student programs, build community, and provide support for our faculty.

The Oakwood Lower School Difference

What is unique about the Lower School at Oakwood? The entire Lower School experience includes the following features:

Academic and Co-Curricular Development

Our teachers:
- offer a nurturing environment for the students while also promoting independence
- utilize time management strategies to make effective and efficient use of teaching time
- frequent correspond with parents to keep them abreast of behavioral and developmental progress, as well as happenings in the classroom through email

Students move from classroom to classroom for special classes, rather than remaining in the homeroom all day.
An early foundation in STEAM with:
- a Lower School Innovation Lab
- technology with iPads available for each student
- music and art classes with Lower School specific teachers and teaching spaces
Lower School specific Spanish teacher and separate classroom.
Flexible recess time throughout the day promotes physical fitness, social skills and development of creativity.

Social, Cultural, and Community Building

Mentoring Programs -- H.U.G.S. (Help Us Grow Successfully) pairs 5th graders with Kindergarteners to build social connectedness regularly throughout the year, and every Lower School classroom "adopts" one or more seniors

All grades morning meetings -- designed to promote community-building, which allows our students to learn what it is like to be part of something bigger than themselves.
