Niche.com uses the most comprehensive data available to assess schools and neighborhoods for individuals to consult when researching choices about schools and places to live. Through public data sets, multiple sources and over a 100 million reviews and survey responses, Niche.com incorporates algorithms and statistical techniques to formulate their rankings.

According to the Niche.com website, in calculating the rankings, Niche.com determines a school’s grade and report card through a thorough series of steps to confirm accuracy and ensure balanced and objective data. Once these factors are completed, Niche.com produces a standardized score for each school’s factor that allows for a statistically valid comparison basis with other schools. Factors used to determine a school’s grade and ranking are academics, teachers, clubs and activities, diversity, college prep and sports. These scores are then assigned a grade “based on how each school performs compared to all other schools included in the ranking” according to a specified distribution scale. “We were delighted to learn of our position in North Carolina and especially in eastern North Carolina,” said Head of School Rob Peterson. “While we aren’t surprised, it is nice to have confirmation. Our teachers and staff work so hard and care for each student individually and that clearly pays off in personal and academic achievements and college readiness. ”

Peterson went on to say “I am also proud to see this ranking against so many other schools across NC because the eastern NC schools have a much lower tuition than other NC schools, yet we rank very high against them. That really shows what an excellent education our students in eastern NC are receiving at a good value comparatively.”

Located in Greenville, NC, The Oakwood School is a PreK to 12th grade co-ed, non-sectarian, independent school. For more information, please contact Alicia Hawk, Director of Advancement at 252-931-0760 or alhawk@theoakwoodschool.org
