The Oakwood Parent Experience

Since its founding, Oakwood has often been called a “family school” that feels warm and welcoming the minute you walk into the main office and meet Ms. Christine, our front office manager.

Your first tour of the school will probably include a current parent along with our Admissions Director, Kelly Robbins. Before the start of school, each new family is paired with a “buddy family” to talk them through the first weeks of school and keep in touch throughout the year to answer any question you might have. Oakwood may initially be a school for your children, but it will also become a place where you, as parents, feel welcome, known, appreciated and supported.

Parent Participation

One of the founding principles of Oakwood was to encourage parent participation and become an integral part of the school. Parent volunteer groups support our students through the generosity of their time and resources helping strengthen student programs, build community, and provide support for our faculty.

To enhance you and your student’s experience at Oakwood, we encourage parents to become a part of one or all three of our parent support groups.

Parent Service Association (PSA):
The PSA provides support and assistance to the school and promotes fellowship and friendship among Oakwood families through hosting school-wide activities and events such as Meet and Greet, Fall Family Picnic, Family Bingo Night, International Night, Teacher Appreciation Week, and more. They also actively support our teachers through PSA grants, appreciation events, and the coordination of room parent volunteers.

Eagle Booster Club:
The Eagle Booster Club promotes Oakwood’s athletics program, athletes, and coaches in an atmosphere that is consistent with the educational philosophy of the school community.  The members also promote school spirit and sportsmanship and encourage attendance at Oakwood’s athletic events. Go Eagles!  Annual events such as Monk Madness and Spring Fling are highlights of each school year.

Fine Arts Support Team (F.A.S.T.):
The Fine Arts Support Team provides assistance for and promotion of fine arts programs at The Oakwood School.  They are the extra feet on the ground at our winter and spring concerts, theatrical performances, and art shows helping these events run smoothly and joyously.
