Our Strength in People
Every year hundreds of parents, alumni, and other volunteers donate thousands and thousands of hours of their time for the benefit of our students and teachers. These volunteers truly embody both Oakwood’s mission and culture of philanthropy, playing a significant role in creating the remarkable Oakwood experience. The impact of our volunteers’ contributions is immeasurable and greatly appreciated.
Parent Support Groups
Parent volunteer groups support our students through the generosity of their time and resources. They help strengthen student programs and build community.
Parent Service Association (PSA): The PSA provides support and assistance to the school and promotes fellowship and friendship among Oakwood families through hosting school-wide activities and events such as Meet and Greet, Fall Family Picnic, Family Bingo Night, International Night, Teacher Appreciation Week, and more. They also actively support our teachers through PSA grants, appreciation events, and the coordination of room parent volunteers. Learn more about the PSA here.
Eagle Booster Club: The Eagle Booster Club promotes Oakwood’s athletics program, athletes, and coaches in an atmosphere that is consistent with the educational philosophy of the school community. The members also promote school spirit and sportsmanship and encourage attendance at Oakwood’s athletic events. Go Eagles! Annual events such as Monk Madness and Spring Fling are highlights of each school year. Learn more about the Eagle Booster Club here.
Fine Arts Support Team (F.A.S.T.): The Fine Arts Support Team provides assistance for and promotion of fine arts programs at The Oakwood School. They are the extra feet on the ground at our winter and spring concerts, theatrical performances, and art shows helping these events run smoothly and joyously. Learn more about F.A.S.T. here.
Annual Fund volunteers led by current parent co-chairs work in collaboration with our Development Office to connect with all members of the Oakwood community in the fall to encourage 100% support for the school’s top giving priority — the Annual Fund. Through their leadership, ideas, and personal outreach efforts, Annual Fund volunteers help to ensure the success of each campaign in fulfilling the school’s annual budgetary needs. If you would like to learn more about volunteering for the Annual Fund, please contact Alicia Hawk in our Development Office at 252.931.0760 x1302.
Annual Blue Jean Ball Auction & Gala
Blue Jean Ball Auction & Gala volunteers also work in collaboration with our Development Office to plan and execute this signature annual event. Volunteers handle every detail from decorations to menus, music, auction solicitation, and event logistics. Each year the Blue Jean Ball engages families, friends and area supporters to raise significant funds for financial assistance as well as a special project. The annual auction has also been a hallmark social event during the school’s 20-year history, and its success is a testimony to the faithfulness of many excellent volunteers. If you would like to learn more about the Blue Jean Ball, please contact Kristin McPeters in our Development Office at 252.931.0760 x1301.
